Installation and locations

Ford Engine Block Heater-Although Ford makes a variety of heavy duty engines, the following are the most common. Ford heaters are normally trouble free to install, without serious access issues. If installing a freeze plug style block heater, make sure to clean the freeze plug bore and coat the o-ring with light grease to ensure proper sealing.
When installing the NPT (pipe thread) style heater, use a quality sealing compound on the threads (such as #2 Permatex) to prevent leaks.

7.3L Power Stroke
Replaces 3/4" NPT threaded plug in oil cooler.

7.3L Mechanical (Non Power Stroke)
Replaces freeze plug on Right rear of engine. Point element 11 o'clock.

7.8L (After 1989, plate style)
Replaces 2nd freeze plug from rear - right side. (Diameter of element in plate 1.5")

7.8L (Before 1989, freeze plug style)
Replaces 2nd freeze plug from rear - right side.
